  I. Spring Tours

Each Spring we host school tours on the farm. These tours reflect our spring activities—planting, working the soil, and working with animals. We can customize your tour to cover any farm-related activities you wish. These tours last an hour, and are don’t schedule two groups concurrently (unless they are from the same school and that’s what the teachers want to do). The costs and conditions are the same as our Fall tours (see below).

II. School September Harvest Tours

Each day in September the Jubilee Farm Staff is available to help kids capture the experience of harvest season on the farm. The tour has two components. We find that kids learn best by being actively involved, so one part of our harvest tour allows students to actually harvest. After loading up on the farm hay-wagon, we ride to the fields where every student will harvest his/her own carrots, beets, basil, beans, broccoli, etc. We’ll take a break from harvesting to talk a little about organic farming. These talks are geared to the age of the students, and allow for lots of questions from students and adults.

III. September Harvest Tour Specifics

Directions to Jubilee Farm (opens in a separate window)

Cost of the Tour: The tour cost is $6.00 per student. We have a minimum charge of $120.00 per tour; students over twenty are an additional $6.00 each. There is no charge for adults, but participating siblings (i.e. those older than babes-in-arms) must pay the $6.00 and can, of course, fully participate in the tour.

Duration of Tours: Your tour will last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
Adults on the Tour: we ask that adults accompany children at a ratio of 1 adult for every five children. Adults will be asked to take an active role in helping kids harvest. Again, there is no charge for adults or teachers.

Days and Times of Tours: Tours are available five days a week during September. We have a morning, mid-day, and afternoon time-slot. Please call 425-222-4558 to reserve a time.

Inclement weather: We don’t allow it! Seriously, life on the farm goes on regardless of weather. Rarely is it so bad that we can’t conduct a tour, and we do have greenhouses and a large loft in the barn where we can fruitfully continue a tour should there be a down-pour.

What to Bring: Students should bring either boots or shoes that can get muddy, rain jackets, and hats. Our motto is "plan for the worst, hope for the best." Teachers should also make sure that each student has a plastic bag to take home the vegetables they harvest.

Lunch and Snacks: You may eat lunch or a snack in a covered area at the farm.

Be on Time!!!   It’s really important for all of us to keep on schedule. If you are late, we will have to shorten your tour. Please plan on arriving five to ten minutes early. We strongly recommend that at least one person who will be driving make a "practice run" to the farm to determine how long it will take to get here. Don’t forget to plan for traffic that may be different at the time the group comes.

Registration: Call the farm at 425-222-4558. Expect an answering service. Leave a message with the best phone number and time to reach you. We’ll make every effort to get back to you soon.

IV. School October Pumpkin Tours

What’s October without Pumpkins? We’ve done Pumpkin Tours here at Jubilee Farm for long enough that many teachers consider our farm to be "their farm." And they’re not far from wrong!

Pumpkin Tours are a little more "goal" oriented (i.e. getting a pumpkin) and frenetic than our September Harvest Tours, but the excitement of Halloween is, after all, hard to contain for most kids.

Our Pumpkin tours have three components. One, obviously, is the hay-ride to the pumpkin field where each child chooses one pumpkin they want to take home. Our pumpkins are still growing on the vine. With the help of parents, teachers, and our staff, students cut their own pumpkin. Parents and teachers may also cut pumpkins and gourds and pay for their pumpkins and gourds separately.

The second component of the tour is a trip to the loft of our 1958 dairy barn for a run through the hay maze. Everyone gets into the giant hay-bale labyrinth, and it’s often hard to drag the kids away.

The third component of the tour is to see all the barn-yard animals, and this too is part of the farm experience.
